CLP Power to hike fuel fees by another 5.4pc in June
Hong Kong's main power supplier, CLP Power, said on Tuesday it is raising fuel costs for a third consecutive month – increasing prices by 5.4 percent in June. In a statement, the company announced that fuel costs for next month would be set at HK$0.42 per kilowatt-hour (kWh), up from the HK$0.40 per kWh for May. The city's other utility firm, HK Electric, last week announced it was hiking June fuel costs by 20 percent from May due to the Iran war. HK Electric had also warned that higher costs are expected in the coming months, as the current levels have yet to fully capture the changes in fuel costs. While HK Electric supplies energy for Hong Kong Island and Lamma, CLP Power serves Kowloon, the New Territories and Lantau Island, covering more than 80 percent of the city's population.
