Secretary for Environment and Ecology Tse Chin-wan said all restaurant licences would have national security clauses by September. The Food and Environmental Hygiene Department introduced the clauses in licence renewals for restaurants since May, prohibiting business activities that endanger national security. “With restaurants renewing their licences gradually, we expect that by September this year, all restaurant licences will contain the clauses,” Tse said in a media interview. The clauses, he added, act as a constant reminder to restaurant managers and staff to protect national security. Tse said no violations to the national security clauses have been found so far. Separately, Tse also said China has developed rapidly in green technologies. The use of green energy enhances the country’s security amid the energy crisis brought about by the Middle East tumult, he said. Edited by Edmond Fong
