China and Pakistan put forward five proposals on restoring peace and stability in the Gulf region and the Middle East during talks between Foreign Minister Wang Yi and his Pakistani counterpart Ishaq Dar in Beijing on Tuesday. The proposals are immediately ceasing hostilities, initiating peace talks as soon as possible, ensuring the safety of non-military targets, ensuring the safety of navigation, and safeguarding the primacy of the UN Charter. "Dialogue and diplomacy are the only feasible ways to resolve conflicts," China and Pakistan said. "China and Pakistan support the parties concerned in initiating negotiations, and all sides should commit to resolving disputes through peaceful means." Both countries called on all parties to follow the proposals. China and Pakistan have sought to mediate in the Middle East to prevent the conflict from escalating, with Islamabad saying it is ready to host "meaningful talks" between the United States and Iran. Dar on Sunday hosted his counterparts from Saudi Arabia, Egypt and Türkiye in Islamabad for talks to try to end the war. (Xinhua and agencies) Edited by Edmond Fong
