Greater Bay Airlines announced on Friday that fuel surcharges for non-mainland services would almost double from March 18 due to higher oil prices as a result of the Middle East conflict. This came after similar moves by Cathay Pacific and Hong Kong Airlines. For flights to the Maldives, the surcharge will rise from HK$284 to HK$541. Journeys to all other destinations, such as in Japan, Thailand and Malaysia, will see the surcharge for jet fuel rise to HK$290 from HK$142. The rate will remain unchanged for flights to and from the mainland. Greater Bay Airlines said fuel surcharges might be adjusted according to its established mechanism in line with changes in oil prices. Edited by Tony Sabine
